The last weekend in October was an exciting one for the Eastern Ontario Wild AAA Minor Bantam team. After a spectacular showing the weekend before in Peterborough, the Wild 06 players were looking forward to another away tournament in Barrie. Travelling early on Thursday to Barrie, the Minor Bantam’s were guests at the OHL game that evening, where the Barrie Colts took on the Owen Sound Attack. The boys were able to tour the facility and meet with the Colts GM and spend time in the press box. Watching a close, physical game, with Barrie taking home the win, gave the Wild team motivation going into the round robin the next morning.

Friday’s competitors were Nickel City Sons and the Cambridge Hawks. The Wild were 1-1 after the first day of hockey and came out with a purpose on Saturday. Marking 2 wins against the northern teams of Soo Jr. Greyhounds (4-1) and North Bay Trappers (2-1) the Wild finished 2nd in the round robin.

The semi final was played on Sunday morning against the Soo Jr. Greyhounds and the Wild held on in a tight, physical battle to win 3-2. Heading into the final again in tournament play, the Minor Bantam’s out shot their North Bay Trapper opponents and monopolized the majority of the play. They came up short in the end, to take home the silver medal. The result was a direct reflection of the hard work and outstanding team play the Wild brought to the ice over the weekend. Another fantastic accomplishment for these boys, who are showing the AAA teams from all over Ontario that they are ready to compete with any AAA opponent. Well done Wild!!!
