Wild win two Thanksgiving weekend tournaments

Two Eastern Ontario Wild teams skated to tournament championships over the Thanksgiving weekend in the Toronto area.

The Minor Bantam’s early season success continued as they posted a six game undefeated streak to be crowned the 2010 Minor Bantam AAA Champions in the Markham Majors AAA Tournament.  

The team’s continued focus on strong defensive play kept their opponents at bay. The Wild allowed only five goals in six games. The team’s strong goaltending tandem of JP Sabourin and Reilly Tondreau stacked the pads to post three shutouts, including a 3-0 win in the finals against the Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

In the other tournament action, the team defeated Sudbury’s Nickel City Sons (6-2); the Cambridge Hawks (4-2); the Clarington Toros (6-0) and the Guelph Jr. Storm (5-0). The semi-final game proved to be a nail- biter as the Wild fought off the Markham Majors’ late third period rally to hold on to a 3-1 win.

The team has an amazing 14-1-2 record so far this season.

The Major Bantams competed down the highway at the Hamilton Reps Tim Horton tournament. 

The boys split their four round robin games to post a 2-2 record through the first two days.  Surprisingly, that was good enough to win their division and advance to the playoff round, where the team made the best of its good fortune.

The Wild edged the Greater Kingston Junior Frontenac’s 2-1 in the semi-final, avenging a 4-3 loss in the opening round.  The Minor Bantams won another one-goal game against the Nickel City Sons in the tournament final, winning the championship game by a 3-2 score.

The Minor Midgets also competed in the Hamilton Tournament, posting a 2-2 record. They did not advance to the tournament playoffs.
