Eastern Ontario Falters on Wild Day

2010-11-25

Chris McDonell, Deputy Mayor of North Glengarry Township, drops the puck at a ceremonial face-off between Major Bantam Wild captain Matthew Clement and Titans captain Owen McDade to kick off Wild Day on November 20 in Alexandria.

Wild generous hosts, losing three of four games

The Eastern Ontario Wild proved to be generous hosts on Wild Day, allowing three of the four visiting teams to leave Alexandria with two points on November 20.  Only the Minor Bantam Wild, who opened the festivities at noon, won in front of the hometown crowd.

In what was expected to be a close game between the top two teams in the standings, the Minor Bantam Wild jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period and cruised to a 6-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.  The win allowed the Wild to draw within one point of the Sens atop the Minor Bantam standings. Martin Frechette and Brett McKenzie led the Wild with two goals and three assists each.  Nicolas Hamre had a goal and two assists, while Kyle Millett also added a marker.

The Major Bantam Wild dropped a 6-3 decision to the Ottawa Valley Titans in the second game.  Tristen Elie had two goals and an assist for the Wild.  Dean Derouchie added the other goal.

The Minor Midget Wild fared no better in their match-up against the Upper Canada Cyclones.  Two two teams traded goals in the first, with Mathieu Desautles scoring for the Wild.  Despite a shorthanded goal by Mark Golberg in the second, the Cyclones won the frame and led 3-2 after two periods.  Upper Canada added an insurance marker in third for a 4-2 win.

In the nightcap the Major Midget Wild ended up on the wrong end of 6-1 score against the Ottawa 67s.   Phillipe Paquette scored the lone goal for Eastern Ontario.

All of the Wild players received specially made Wild ball caps as a memento of the day.  The boys also received a complimentary lunch.

A big thank you to Darrin Leboeuf for leading the organizing team on Wild Day.  Special thanks to Paul Forgues, Wayne Golberg and Yves Poirier for their assistance, and to Natalie Maclean for donating gifts for dignitaries who attended.
